Fruit of the Spirit Series - Kindness

“But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy.” – Titus 3:4-5

When we talk of kindness it usually references how we treat one another. There is nothing wrong with that and we should and are commanded to treat others with kindness. However, this verse in Titus is referring to the kindness of God toward us. I believe we often don’t contemplate God’s kindness toward us. We know He loves us, protects us, disciplines us but kindness has a different bent to it. It is a “softer” word if that makes sense. God is the Lord and creator of all- He is the Lord of Lords and being kind is a gentler, humbler characteristic than I personally attribute to the King of Kings. Remember however, we are created in the image of God so if we are to be kind to others, He was kind to us first! And Titus 3:4-5 explains His kindness leads to our salvation! Let your heart and mind rest in the knowledge that we serve a God who pours kindness over us.
