Perfect Peace
The definition of peace in the Miriam Webster dictionary is a state of tranquility or quiet, state of
security, freedom from disquieting or oppressive thoughts or emotions, harmony.
I pray for peace almost every day, but what kind of peace am I praying for. I pray for peace within my family, I pray for peace at work, I pray for peace in the world. Then I realized I rarely pray for peace for myself. Why is that? I guess it’s because I feel I should only pray for peace when things in my life are out of control or topsy turvey. I asked myself another question, when I pray for peace, am I praying earnestly and from my heart? Do I believe that the Lord can and will give me the peace I’m asking for.
My honest answer is sometimes. I should be able to say absolutely yes, but that would not be the truth.
So how can I get to the point where I can say yes, and believe the Lord can and will give me the peace I seek. The first thing I do is focus on Jesus. I take time to just be still. I dig way down deep into my heart and tell Him the situation I am encountering and why I need His peace. I then go to His word. As I sit in stillness, I can feel every burden, worry, or fear begin to melt away. My body seems cleansed, refreshed. My mind is clear, focused. My heart is so full of joy I have actually danced around my house.
I began to sing at the top of my lungs (of course no one was home) praising the Lord. This type of inner peace can only be from the Lord. This type of peace is pure love that is beautiful. This is a peace and joy I want to experience forever. Then the world gets in the way again and the true peace I had begins to diminish, but, it’s ok because I felt it for a few wonderful moments and I know this peace was a gift given to me by my Lord and Savior. I know He is with me. This gift is beyond beautiful, it is filled with love, I believe His love.
My prayer for all of you is that Gods peace, if only for a fleeting moment, comes upon you so you
understand the love He has for you. I pray you strive to attain this peace every day.
