Self Control Week 5

The Gift of Self Control

John 15:1-4 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.”

Throughout the Bible discipline, or lack there of, is mentioned many times. The Lord is calling us to have self control, but He is not asking us to try to attain it apart from Him.

He is not asking us to strive and muscle our way out of sin. He is asking us to draw near, slow down and abide in Him. Only by doing this can we see fruitful change. It is not by our strength, but by His that we are made new.

My prayer today is that the Lord would reveal to you the areas in your life He is asking you to draw near to him, so transformation can take place. You are not doing it alone! The Lord is with you.
