Self Control Week 6

Focus Verse:

“Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control.” — Proverbs 25:28

In biblical times, a city without walls was completely vulnerable. There was nothing protecting it from whatever wanted to come in. In the same way, when we don’t practice self-control, we can become vulnerable to every emotion, impulse, opinion, or temptation that comes our way.

Self-control is creating space between what happens to us and how we respond. We don’t have to say everything we think, act on every feeling, or let one bad moment determine the rest of our day. God calls us to be intentional about what we let in and what we let out. Today, ask yourself: What have I been allowing into my mind or heart that I need to put a boundary around?
