Gentleness Part 2/7
Devo written By Awaken Co-Founder, Kim Tolnar
“Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of
Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold
toward you:” – 2 Corinthians 10:1
Paul speaks of the gentleness of Jesus in 2nd Corinthians 10:1. I believe
when most people think of Jesus an imagine of his gentleness comes to
mind. Often in pictures we see him with a lamb or a child and a peaceful
look on His face. This assessment is correct- Jesus is gentle, kind and
compassionate. He is love. But Jesus also valued justice and became
angry at sinfulness. He was passionate about his Father’s house
(throwing out the money changers and making a whip at the temple). He
referred to the Pharisees as vipers and white washed tombs! So when
do we see the ultimate gentleness of Jesus? When do we see Him lay
down His right to be angry? At the cross.
Isaiah 53:7 tells us:
He was oppressed and afflicted, yet He did not open his mouth; He was
led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is
silent, He did not open his mouth.
The purest picture of gentleness was Jesus in total surrender at the cross
so every single person could have eternal life.
