Gentleness Part 4/7

1 Timothy 6:11–12

But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness,

godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness. Fight the good fight of the

faith.

Every day presents “fights” for us to participate in. A fight to demand our

rights, a fight to demand the right-of-way when driving, a fight with the

repairman, our neighbor, spouse, kids……. Every encounter we face daily

could be seen as a call for us to fight. Our culture honors those who fight.

If I don’t stand up for myself who will? The louder I yell the better. But the

Lord is calling us to be gentle in this fight crazed world. Now gentle

doesn’t mean passive. I am not being called to be a doormat or to be

abused, but I am being called to be gentle and full of love. To treat others

how I wish to be treated. To be kind and gentle, not abrasive in my

strength. As Christians we are called to a higher calling- to be gentle

giants among those wanting a fight.
