Gentleness Part 6/7

“Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.” — Philippians 4:5

Gentleness is often misunderstood. It can sound like weakness, passivity, or shrinking back. But biblical gentleness is none of those things. Gentleness is strength under control. It is power that chooses patience. It is confidence that does not need to dominate.

When Paul wrote to the church in Philippi, he encouraged believers to let their gentleness be visible to everyone. Not just friends. Not just people who agree with them. Everyone.

That means gentleness shows up:

-In how we respond when we are misunderstood

-In how we speak when we are frustrated

-In how we lead when we have authority

-In how we love when we have been hurt

Jesus modeled this perfectly. Though He had all authority, He described Himself as “gentle and humble in heart.”. His gentleness did not make Him weak. It made people feel safe. Seen. Drawn in instead of pushed away.

The world often rewards loudness and force. The Kingdom honors gentleness. And Scripture reminds us why we can live this way: the Lord is near.

Prayer:

Lord, teach me to carry strength with softness. Help my words be steady, my tone kind, and my reactions anchored in You. Let my gentleness reflect Your heart so clearly that others feel Your nearness through me. Amen.
