Patience Seen In God’s Love

2 Peter 3:9

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

Patience seen in God’s love

I think it would be safe to assume we all dread being told to be patient. It honestly is for most of us just not natural. As I have gotten older, I have learned to be more patient. I will take some deep breaths, force a smile or whatever the situation calls for but it still never feels totally natural. What I have surprisingly recently realized however, is that patience reveals love. I never really recognized these 2 concepts were interrelated but 2 Peter tells us God is patient with us because he does not want any of us to perish. Out of his all-consuming love for us-he is patient with us. His patience is a reflection and consequence of his love for us. He could easily wipe us off the face of the earth due to our sin. (Noah’s ark?) He could take an eye for an eye and repay us how we hurt him or hurt others. But instead, because of his love for us- he is patient. It may appear to others he is just slow to act but he is not slow- he is being patient. He is waiting for you my friend to turn from your wordly desires and place your faith in Him!
